This Not A Thread
So. This past week there's been some noise made about Threads - something that Meta themselves have dubbed an 'Instagram app' - that purports to offer a platform for social engagement with less toxicity. The twist, seemingly, is that you get to control who follows and/or comments on your output.
In the early days of the socials, when a new platform emerged I often created an @stevewhiting account for myself in the belief that I was somehow protecting my identity. Those days have long gone; as too have countless social experiments.
I'll not be creating a Threads account. Instead, I'll continue pursuing my own investigation and experimentation of RSS, the data format that underlies these Biscuits - with no mechanism for likes or a follower-count mechanism, it's about as untoxic as it comes.
Socials come and go. Your website stays.
